The year 1985 comes in at #20 in the XPN Greatest Year in Music countdown

Organized by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, Live Aid was the largest international charity festival and television broadcast of its era. It had a star-studded roster, including London performers Elvis Costello, Sade, Sting, Branford Marsalis, U2, Dire Straits, Queen, David Bowie, The Who, Elton John, Freddie Mercury and Paul McCartney and Philadelphia performers Joan Baez, The Hooters, Four Tops, Black Sabbath, Run-D.M.C., The Beach Boys, Pretenders, Madonna, Santana, Tom Petty, Mick Jagger and more. Phil Collins performed on both stages, flying on the high-speed Concorde between cities.

Prior to Live Aid, music videos were given another outlet with the debut broadcast of VH1 on January 1st.
