Go back to 1957 with WXPN’s Mike Vasilikos on Slacker

Sam Cooke. Miles Davis. 1957 was the dawn of rock and roll, yet was a year marked by many important jazz and R&B records.

The world was introduced to Little Richard, but it was Miles Davis who made his mark on music with the release of the Birth Of the Cool , ‘Round About Midnight and Miles Ahead.

John Coltrane released Blue Train, jazz pianist Thelonious Monk released Brilliant Corners, and Sonny Rollins released Way Out West. 1957 also saw important releases by Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Elvis Presley.
